Goodbye Sweet Jonah

This will be brief; it is too hard to do much of anything right now.

Jonah was born around 12:50 this afternoon, kicking and screaming. His cry was so robust that the doctors thought it was just like that of a normal baby. At the initial assessment, the neonatologist thought that he was in the "gray area" and he may make it a few days. With that in mind, they brought him up to the NICU and tried several methods to get him enough breathing support. We even noticed a little pee, which was a huge surprise considering his condition.

It was not to be, however, as his oxygen levels kept dropping. We got to spend some quality time with him and our family, and the wonderful staff here at the hospital. As they told is would happen, we reached a point where we both knew it was time to let go and we had them withdraw the breathing support. He survived for a short time after that, going peacefully on to Heaven.

Although our hearts are filled with sadness, we are also proud of our son for being the fighter that he was. We really thought we would have had more time, considering that beautiful fight he put up, but the world was just a little too big for him.

I will post more later this week, and add pictures of our sweet Jonah.

  4. John and Kelly, My heart hurts, tears falling, and prayers are sent out for you both. My grandson Vayden is facing the same thing. Please know that you, and Jonah's fight for the short but blessed life that he shared with you, has been an inspiration for my daughter Stephanie. Thank you for sharing. I pray for God's comfort and peace to get you through the tough times that arise.

  11. Dear Kelly & John and Evan,

We have been thinking of all of you very intently - so sad for all you must be feeling and also hoping you are doing the best you possible can. Thank you for sharing the picture of Jonah. He is a beautiful and precious little boy. We will miss knowing him the way that you have even if for such a short time. We take solace that he is so deeply loved and that he has been relieved of physical suffering.

Much love to the three of you. You are in our thoughts and prayer. We miss you.

  12. Thanks for sharing this heart-rending story.

When I set the hymns for Mass on March 21, I didn't know I would have such a hard time playing "Amazing Grace". The notes got very blurry from the tears. Know that all of you were remembered in prayer that day and will be remembered again tonight at Bible Study.

    Love,
    Dorothy

PS Vonnie sends her prayers, too.
